In the seventeenth century it became the practice for young aristocrats from northern Europe to complete their education be seeing the sights of Italy.  This programme explores some of the music they might have heard in Italian cities, and on the long and arduous route through Germany and across the Alps.  It includes sonatas, dances and variations by Castello, Bertoli, Frescobaldi, Rosenmüller, Böddecker and others, and features the rarely-heard virtuoso repertory for the dulcian, the predecessor of the Baroque bassooon.

Apollo & Pan consists of three talented young artists who perform regularly at the Suffolk Villages Festival.  Since winning the Early Music Network Young Artists’ Competition in York in July 2001 they have become one of the most sought-after young early music groups, and have played at many of Britain’s festivals.  In April 2003 they make their Dutch debut with a four-concert tour.
