A programme of superb 17th‐century music for voices, viol consort and continuo, taking its title Ad Cor from Buxtehude’s vocal concerto, the high point of his cycle Membra Jesu Nostri. The main works are Schütz’s Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ on the Cross and Charpentier’s great Litany of the Virgin. There is also music by Michael Praetorius and other French and German contemporaries. We end with a haunting funeral aria by Johann Christoph Bach, a memorial to Julia King (1958‐2019), a longstanding and valued member of Psalmody.
