We celebrate Candlemas, the feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, with two great cantatas by J.S. Bach, ‘Ich habe genug’ (for solo bass with oboe obbligato) and ‘Komm, du süße Todesstunde’, and seasonal music by his Leipzig predecessors Johann Schelle and Johann Kuhnau. The programme includes two wonderful, contrasted settings by Heinrich Schütz of the Nunc Dimittis and Alessandro Marcello’s famous oboe concerto.
